Zwanenberg Food is one of Europe’s leading producers and exporters of deli meats, meat preserves, snacks, soups, sauces, vegetarian and vegan products. Besides successful proprietary brands, Zwanenberg also develops, produces and distributes a number of successful private labels on the domestic and international markets. As a food manufacturer, Zwanenberg Food has to deal with strict requirements in their factory hall. Also in terms of lighting. To ensure that any inspections carried out at short notice would be passed with flying colours, we customised lighting to meet all requirements, wishes and regulations.
The strict HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) guidelines identify food safety risks and therefore which critical points in production or storage halls need extra attention. For lighting that means: impact resistant, splashproof, shatterproof and easy to clean. Of course, care must also be taken to ensure that there is no risk of components of the fittings coming loose, as they can contaminate the production process.
But each project also has its own unique requirements, and the Oss plant was no exception. The dimensions of the lighting in the ceiling deviated from the standard dimensions and the suitable lamp did not exist – yet! And that was not all: “Within the food industry, inspections are carried out regularly to check that the production process meets all requirements. With the current lighting, there was a risk that the plant would not pass an inspection (AUDIT). So the new lighting had to be sorted out prior to that,” said Dirk Elgersma, Senior Account Manager. And that meant that the production and installation of the new LED lighting had to be completed within three weeks.
Due to its great success, the initial collaboration between Unique Lights and Zwanenberg Food has grown into a long-term project in Oss. Work is proceeding in phases to renew and make the entire factory hall more sustainable. New phases often present new challenges, but never one for which there is no solution. “In the end, there is only one thing that matters: Once there is an issue, you need to make sure you are present and solve the client’s puzzle. In case of issues, I’m at the client’s premises within two hours.”
